Hi all, I’m Mick Roper. I manage Symmetric Solutions, as well as designing, developing and deploying the applications that we right. That may make me seem like some kind of arrogant super-man but truth be told I have no choice – I’m the only guy here!
So, first things first; a little about me. I’ve been a professional developer for about 7 years, plus a hobbyist for around a decade longer. I started my development career writing extensions for .Net 2 applications and I’m still a big believer in Microsoft products and techonologies today. That isn’t to say I don’t have a lot of love for the open source movement – NodeJS filled a niche that the mobile web exposed by making it (realtively) easy to build REST api driven applications, and now with languages such as Go, Hadoop, Java 8, and .Net Core it looks like open source if the shape of things to come for the next 3-5 years!
So, why did I decide to leave my comfy role as a software engineer and start Symmetric? One reason really – I love writing software people can use! When I worked for a company it was my job to build the business leader’s vision of what the company needed. Most times I would buy into that vision (though not always). However, there was always an element of ‘I wouldn’t do it that way’. I started Symmetric so that I could ‘do it that way’!
The immediate goals for the company is to build our first batch of apps, and get our name out there. With that in mind, keep an eye on our ‘Apps’ page; there will be some excellent ideas coming out of there in the coming months!
